TENUTA BURCHINO
is a Castellani estate designated Chianti Superiore D.O.C.G. in Tuscanys Colline Pisane. Burchino is currently receiving intensive redevelopment and investment, and the family is committed to major vineyard
and winery improvements to raise the quality of the estates wines to a previously unrealized level.
Located in the village of Terricciola, Tenuta Burchino comprises 4 vineyards and the winery. The vineyards: Le Corti, Il Tesoro, San Martino, and Vallimazzi are planted predominantly to the native Tuscan grapes Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, plus some Cabernet Sauvignon. It was here, in the early 20th century, that Beni Duilio Castellani started producing the Chianti wines that earned the reputation that propelled the Castellani family name to prominence. Castellani, 100 years old in 2003, is now the #1 producer of Chianti wines and an exporter to 43 countries.
The Burchino winery has just been rebuilt on a hillside, to better employ gravity during winemaking. Improved viticultureincluding significant new plantings, better trellising, and more dramatic crop thinning are just beginning to bear the hoped-for results.
Burchino currently produces two wines: the Burchino Chianti Superiore from Sangiovese and Ciliegolo from the Il Tesoro and Vallmazzi vineyards, and Genius Loci, a 100% Sangiovese (sangiovese in purezza) from select vines in the Le Corti vineyard, an exquisite bowl-shaped site with soil containing large fossil seashell deposits.
Tenuta Burchino is an outstanding example of both the ongoing Tuscan renaissance and the Castellani familys long-term commitment to elevating quality. Tenuta Burchino has an average national retail price of $12.99.
