Castellani, respected Tuscan winemakers and merchants since 1903, just celebrated their 100th anniversary, though they just recently began marketing wines in the US under the Castellani name. However, as major producers they have played a principal role in some very well known and respected Tuscan success stories.
Brothers Roberto and Piergiorgio Castellani propelled the family-owned company to international success, exporting wine to 41 countries throughout Europe, Asia, North
and South America. Robertos son, Piergiorgio Jr, marking the 4th Castellani generation involved since the firms founding, has joined the team to set company direction for the new century.
Castellani has recently invested $10 million in purchases and improvements to their estate vineyards and wineries. The estate program is anchored by four properties: the historic Campomaggio property outside Radda, in Chianti Classicos golden triangle, Tenuta Burchino in Terricciola, and Poggio al Casone in Crespina. The latter two, in the Colline Pisane (hills outside Pisa) are exciting properties in Tuscanys booming western region. These major estate vineyard and winery developments complement Fattoria di Travalda, Castellanis large, modern production facility in Pontedera, outside historic Pisa.
In addition to Tuscan wines, Castellani offers a range of traditional and modern bottlings from all over Italy. These include Pinot Grigio and Merlot delle Venezie from the Veneto, Sangiovese and Primtivo (Italian Zinfandel) from southern Puglia, Montepulcinao DAbruzzi, and Essenza, a hearty Primitivo-Sangiovese blend from Puglia. Castellani works continuously to improve the quality and emphasize the native character of all their wines.
Castellanis talented young winemaker Sabino Russo has defined and is refining a distinctive style. Working with world-renowned Tuscan enologist Franco Bernabei and veteran viticulturist Federico Comassi, Russo produces a portfolio of delicious wines that are getting better each year, receiving positive reviews and honors around the globe.
